The Prime Minister will visit violence affected areas of Muzaffarnagar tomorrow. PMO sources said in New Delhi that Dr. Manmohan Singh will make an on-the-spot assessment of the situation. He will also visit hospitals where the injured are admitted.
Dr. Singh is expected to discuss the situation with UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who visited many riot hit areas in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli including Kaval, Malikpura, Shahpur and Kandhla today. The Chief Minister also visited two relief camps where thousands of people rendered homeless in the violence have taken shelter. He announced that one of the family members of those killed in the violence will be given government job. Addressing a press conference during the visit, Mr Yadav appealed people to maintain peace and said that his government will take strict action to deal with those creating trouble.
AIR Lucknow Correspondent reports that the Chief Minister had to face the ire of the agitated victims at places besides, slogan shouting and black flags by the angry villagers. Waving black flags, the villagers shouted slogans against the alleged failure of the administration in controlling the violence that has claimed 47 lives so far.
The State government today suspended the already shifted SSP of Muzaffaranagar, Subhash Chandra Dubey. A home department release said in Lucknow that a departmental action has also been ordered against him for his failure to check the violence in time.
Meanwhile, day long curfew relaxation period in Muzaffarnagar city today passed off peacefully as all the shops were open and people performed their routine work. ADG law and order Arun Kumar said that the deployment of the army and other security forces besides picketing will continue in all the trouble hit areas of Muzaffarnagar and adjoining districts. DM Muzaffarnagar Kaushal Raj Sharma said that schools and colleges will open with their routine timings from tomorrow.
