After a hectic week long tour, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has left Frankfurt for New Delhi today. The Prime Minister who participated in the UN General Assembly stressed the need for making the UN stronger and more effective by strengthening the UN General Assembly and through expansion of the decision making Security Council to reflect contemporary realities. Stating that India is ready to play its part in the endeavor, Dr Singh strongly pitched for its permanent membership in the council. The Prime Minister advocated adoption of co-operative rather than confrontationist approach in dealing with issues confronting various countries.
During his stay in New York, Dr. Singh held bilateral meetings with the President of Iran, Sri Lanka, South Sudan besides the Prime Ministers of Japan and Nepal .
Dr Manmohan Singh who turned 79 celebrated his birthday on board the special aircraft along with media persons and the delegation accompanying him. He had an informal chat with media persons and exchanged pleasantries.
