Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is scheduled to address the Assembly on Saturday. During the session, one of India's main focus area will be the issue of sustainable development.
Our correspondent reports that India has been actively participating in UN deliberations on sustainable development right from the very beginning. RIO plus 20 summit in June 2012 gave us mandate to start negotiations on this issue. These negotiations will culminate in a Summit in 2015, which will result in adoption of sustainable development goals. Main objective of these goals is complete eradication of poverty. it is hoped that we will be able to make good progress on this issue during ongoing session of UNGA.
The UN General Assembly is the main deliberative, policymaking and representative organ of the United Nations. It provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion on the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter.
