The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is now on his way to Riyad on a three day official visit to Saudi Arabia. He is expected to reach there by 7.30 PM.Earlier in his departure statement, Dr. Singh called for cooperation between the two countries in combating terrorism and extremism. The Prime Minister said there is a great scope for opening new frontiers of bi lateral cooperation in the areas of security, defence, science and technology, space, human resource development and knowledge based industries.He said during his stay in Saudi Arab he is holing talks with the custodian of the two holy mosques, the king Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to promote stability and security in the region and impart a strategic character to the bi-lateral relations. He said, Saudi Arab is a reliable partner of our energy needs and is home to over 1.8 million Indians. This is besides 16 lakh 50 thousand Indian pilgrims who perform Haj every year.The Prime Minister said that the trade and investment linkages between the two countries have grown but they are still below the potential of our economies. The Prime Minister said that his visit reflects strong mutual desire of the two countries to re-invigorate the ties. He said he has a vast agenda for discussions with the Saudi leadership and is looking forward to address 'Majlis-e-Shaura'. A business delegation of CEOs is accompanying the Prime Minister during his visit to that country.
