Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh will leave for Japan this morning on a three-day state visit. The discussions on the Civil Nuclear Cooperation Agreement and further strengthening the India-Japan Strategic and Global Partnership will be high on the agenda when he attends the Annual Bilateral Summit in Tokyo.
Dr Singh will hold discussions with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe on the entire gamut of bilateral relations including economic and security cooperation and people to people ties. A high level official delegation including National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon is accompanying the prime minister.
Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s visit to Japan is expected to give a new dimension to its strategic partnership with the two countries showing keen interest to further strengthen their relationship on various counts.
The discussions over the civil nuclear cooperation are likely to make progress as India expecting an early conclusion and Japan also affirmed its commitment for it.
Both India and Japan are scheduled to hold talks on a wide spectrum of subjects of mutual interest and discuss ways and means to boost further their strategic and global partnership. Major Investment Projects like Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor will come up for a review on the occasion.
The high level discussions also will seek greater cooperation in the fields of high speed rail technology, energy sector, infrastructure projects and institutionalisation of joint Naval exercises between New Delhi and Tokyo.
As part of his tight schedule, Prime Minister will also address the Japanese business community and the Japan-India Parliamentary Friendship League. Dr Singh is scheduled to call on the Japanese Emperor and the Empress and also meet political leaders of Japan and ministers.
On the second leg of his visit to Thailand, Dr Singh will hold discussions with his Thai counterpart Yingluck Shinawatra in Bangkok on Thursday. Both the leaders will discuss bilateral, regional and global issues including trilateral highway project of India, Thailand and Myanmar, security science and Technology education and culture. Both the countries are likely to sign several agreements on the occasion.
