PM lays foundation stone of nuclear plant in Haryana

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said that UPA government laid a lot of emphasis on power sector. He said that the power generation capacity enhanced in the last ten years is higher than what was achieved in the previous 55 years since Independence.

The prime minister was addressing a rally at Gorakhpur in Fatehabad district of Haryana after laying the foundation stone of a nuclear power plant. Mr Singh said that the power plant would have capacity of 2800 MW power generation and two units of 1400MW would be installed. He said that in the first phase installation of 1400 MW unit would be completed by 2020-21 at a cost of over Rs 21,000 crores.

Prime Minister said that India is among those selected countries which have gained the technique of establishing nuclear power plants. He hoped that after ten years, the country would have capacity of 27000 MW nuclear power generation. The Prime minister said that the nuclear power plants like Gorakhpur would also be installed in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
