PM launches Mobile App-BHIM for Aadhaar-based digital payment

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched a mobile app Bharat Interface for Money, BHIM to facilitate digital cash transactions with only a thumb print after the bank account is linked with Aadhaar gateway. <br/><br/>Addressing Digi Dhan Mela at Talkatora stadium in New Delhi, Mr Modi said, payments through the new system can be made by just a thumb impression. He said, the new indigenously developed payment app BHIM has been named after the main architect of Indian constitution, Dr B R Ambedkar.<br/><br/>Mr Modi said, the mantra of Dr. Ambedkar was to work for the upliftment of the poor and the biggest power of technology is that it can empower the poor. He said, earlier an illiterate was associated with the thumb and now the thumb has become people's identity and bank. The Prime Minister said, in two weeks, Government will make one more accomplishment which will empower BHIM and it's security is being worked on.<br/><br/>The Prime Minister exhorted citizens to adopt digital currency from the new year. Mr Modi took swipes at his political opponents for criticising demonetisation saying the drive was aimed at catching the corrupts that eats away the nation's wealth. He said, during the earlier Government at the Centre, money lost in the scams made news but now the nation is talking about money coming back into the system. <br/><br/>The Prime Minister said, boosting digital connectivity will do wonders for the country. He said, the days are not far off when the cash-based transaction will turn completely digital. The Prime Minister also thanked the media for highlighting issues related with digital payments. <br/><br/>In his address, Minister for Electronic and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad said, digital payment will empower poor and make India stronger. He said, demonetization has broken back bone of criminals, naxals, terrorists, hawala operators and human traffickers. On the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also felicitated winners of Lucky Grahak Yojana.
