PM invites ASEAN countries to invest in India

Saying that India has embarked on a new economic journey wherein emphasis is on infrastructure, manufacturing, trade, agriculture, skill development, urban renewal, smart cities, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi today invited ASEAN countries to invest in India. In his address at the 12th India-ASEAN Summit and subsequent bilateral meetings in Nay Pyi Taw , Myanmar today, Mr. Modi said that India has launched a new mission named Make In India and is also placing stress on making policies attractive.

Briefing Media about the PM’s meetings and his address at the Summit ,External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Syed Akbarudin said that the Prime Minister talked about many similarities and convergences between India and ASEAN Countries which can be exploited for the benefit of all.
Suggesting review of free trade agreement on goods to improve to make it beneficial for all, Mr. Modi urged that the FTA on Service and Investment be brought into force at the earliest.

Talking about Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, Prime Minister said that it can be a springboard for economic integration and prosperity in the region. However, he suggested for a balanced agreement which is truly comprehensive in nature with similar timelines for goods and services. Mr. Modi offered all assistance and cooperation in creating Information Highways what he called i-ways. The Prime Minister said that even where road connectivity is poor, vast economic and employment opportunities can be created through i-ways.

Expressing his gratitude for high level of security cooperation from ASEAN Countries, the Prime Minister called for further strengthening cooperation on countering terrorism, extremism, drugs, arms, and money laundering.
