PM: India plans to strengthen ties with Japan in political, security & energy sectors

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has said that India proposes to invigorate its relations with Japan in political, security and energy sectors.

In his departure statement issued before leaving for Tokyo this morning, he said full potential of the comprehensive economic cooperation partnership will be explored by intensifying and balancing two-way trade and investment linkages with Japan. Over his visit to Bangkok, Dr. Singh said defence security trade cooperation will be further enhanced with Thailand.

Emphasizing commitment to build a strong partnership with Asian, he further said his visit to Japan and Thailand will add depth and a new meaning to India's look East Policy and contribute to peace, prosperity and stability in Asia-Pacific region. A high level official delegation including National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon is accompanying the Prime Minister.

On the second leg of his visit to Thailand, Dr Singh will hold discussions with his Thai counterpart Yingluck Shinawatra in Bangkok on Thursday.

Both the leaders will discuss bilateral, regional and global issues including trilateral highway project of India, Thailand and Myanmar, security science and Technology education and culture. Both the countries are likely to sign several agreements on the occasion.
