PM in Guwahati to inaugurate Assam Assembly Platinum Jubilee celebrations

The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is arriving in Guwahati on a day-long visit to Assam today. He is scheduled to inaugurate the Platinum jubilee celebrations of the Assam Legislative Assembly at a function organized at Dispur.

The Prime Minister will reach at Borjhar Airport at around 11.00 A.M. and proceed to Dr. B. Barooah Cancer Institute where Dr. Singh will inaugurate two new facilities installed in the hospital with financial grant from the North Eastern Council (NEC).

From there, the Prime Minister will arrive at the Dispur parade ground at 12.00 noon and inaugurate the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Assam Legislative Assembly.

Dr. Singh, who is a Rajya Sabha Member from Assam, is likely to take part in a meeting with the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and his Cabinet colleagues to discuss the issues concerning the State, before returning to New Delhi, the same day.

Meanwhile, security has been placed on high alert across the State in view of a 12-hour bandh call by anti-talk faction of the banned ULFA from five this morning.

The State Government has directed all concerned to maintain normal functioning of Government offices and other services during the bandh period.
