PM in Bangkok today on Thai visit; to carry forward new dynamics in ties

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will arrive in Bangkok today on an official visit to Thailand. During his talks with Thailand's Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, Dr Singh will carry forward the new dynamics in ties between the two countries. Our correspondent reports that Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will have a hectic schedule in Bangkok today. He will arrive at Don Muang Airport from Japan in the noon. Prime Minister will be officially welcomed at a ceremony to be held in Government House. Prime Minister will have official talks with Thai Prime Minister Ying Luck Shinawatra on Bilateral, Regional and Multilateral issues of mutual interests. Both sides will sign six MOU’s and agreements on different issues. Later, in the evening the Thai Prime Minister will host a dinner in the honour of Dr. Manmohan Singh. Tomorrow morning, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will leave for home and schedule to arrive in Delhi by the noon.

Our correspondent reports that India and Thailand have made rapid progress in strengthening Defence, Security and an Agreement on transfer of sentenced persons after which both are now closer to signing an extradition treaty.Both are strengthening cooperation among law enforcement agencies, particularly in counter terrorism. In the trade sector, the ties are growing rapidly, especially after conclusion of the Framework Trade Agreement FTA of 2003 and there has also been a fairly impressive growth in two way investment flows.
Besides the two countries are working to promote connectivity in the region through co-operation and development of road as well as shipping infrastructure.This enhanced connectivity will greatly benefit Indian North-East region in particular.
