PM holds discussion with power companies heads

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh held discussions with heads of private power companies this evening to discuss the problems faced by the sector .The meeting assumes importance as the sector is facing problems in meeting the growing power requirements. Several top government functionaries were also present. Earlier they met Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal and apprised him about problems faced in getting fuel supplies for projects.

Top power sector executives, including Anil Ambani and Cyrus Mistry, had a meeting with the Planning Commission Member B K Chaturvedi, to discuss the various issues jamming growth and investment in the power sector.

Government has said the upward revision in wages of Coal India Ltd workers will not have any bearing on coal prices and there will be no hike in prices of the dry fuel. The development comes close on the heels of the PSU last week agreeing in-principle to increase the wages of its workers by 25 per cent amounting to 4000 crore rupees additional expenditure, a year.
