The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today informed the Lok Sabha that his government is engaging China to find peaceful ways of resolving the border dispute and some progress has been achieved in 2005. He said that by and large India-China borders remain peaceful.
Responding to questions in the Lok Sabha today Dr. Manmohan Singh said that this is a policy adopted by the then NDA government. He said, New Delhi is working out with Beijing to have the 15th round of dialogue between the special representatives of India and China. He said that the government does not share the view that China will attack India.
Dr. Singh said there are some intrusions but the Chinese perception of the Line of Control sometimes differs and these matters are sorted out between the area commanders on the two sides.
The Prime Minister made it clear that he did not share the views that there is any evidence to show that China has diverted waters of Brahamputra River. He said, relations between India and China are very sensitive and New Delhi is dealing with care.
The Prime Minister added that his government is taking forward the policy of NDA.
In reply to supplementary, the Minister of State for External Affairs, Mr. E. Ahmad said that talks will continue with the Chinese side to resolve all issues.
Responding to the main question, the External Affairs Minister Mr. S.M. Krishna in a written reply said that India and China are exploring mutually convenient dates for the next round of talks between the special representatives of the two countries.
He informed the House that China while expressing concern over Dalai Lama organizing global Buddhist congregation in India wanted either to prevent him from participating in the conference or cancel it.
He said that New Delhi informed Beijing that the government will not interfere in the conference which is a religious convention and such an event will not have any impact on government to government interaction.
