Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said, the government is considering to amend the Prevention of Corruption Act to protect honest public servants more effectively.
Inaugurating the two day Conference of CBI and State Anti Corruption Bureax in New Delhi, Dr. Singh said, the amendment will fine tune the Act to current international practices and meet the challenges of complexities of economic developments.
He said, the UPA government is committed to creating an effective legal frame work for tackling the menace of corruption that is holding the society and our nation back.
The Prime minsiter said, the UPA government is firm in its commitment to do everything possible to ensure probity, transparency and accountability in governance.
He, however, also cautioned against the mindless atmosphere of negativity and pessimism sought to be created over the issue of corruption. Dr. Singh said negativity and pessimism can only damage our nation's image and affect the morale of honest public servants.
Giving away the President's Police medals & CBI Medals to 15 awardees in New Delhi, Dr. Singh reminded them that, the performance of the government will be guagued by their success in cracking corruption cases.
The Prime Minister urged investigating agencies to constantly upgrade their investigating skills to take on the challenges that has multiplied and become more complicated in view of the rapid economic developments.
Prime minister Manmohan Singh also told Police officers of investigating agencies that they are directly responsible for anti corruption efforts and asked them to work hard with fairness, honesty and fearlessness.
