Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh filed today his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections in Guwahati, Assam. The current term of Dr Singh as Rajya Sabha member expires on the 14th of the next month. The last date for filing nominations is 20th May. Scrutiny of nominations will take place the next day. Polling, if necessary, will be held on 30th of this month and counting of votes will take place the same day.
The Congress and its allies have 93 MLAs in 126 members state Assembly. Our correspondent reports Dr.Manmohan Singh is seeking re-nomination for a consecutive 5th term from Assam.
