PM favours waiving octroi, local taxes to deal with price rise

The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has strongly pleaded for waiving Mandi taxes, Octroi and local taxes for effectively dealing with price rise. He said these taxes impede the smooth moment of essential commodities. Inaugurating the State Chief Secretary's two day conference in New Delhi, Dr Singh said inflation poses a serious threat to the growth momentum and needs to be tackled with great urgency. Dr. Singh said that there has been unacceptably high level of violence in the areas affected by left wing extremism and Kashmir. Referring to probity in public life, he said serious concern has been expressed in many responsible circles about the lack of ethical conduct. He was speaking in the conference when the reports last came in.
