The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has expressed deep shock over the shooting incident at a Gurudwara in United States in which seven persons lost their lives and 20 others were injured during Sunday morning prayers.
The Prime Minister said that this is particularly painful that a place of religious worship has been targeted in this senseless act of violence. Offering his deepest condolences to the bereaved families, Dr. Manmohan Singh said, India stands in solidarity with all the peace-loving Americans who have condemned this violence.
Welcomed the U.S. President's statement on the tragic incident, the Prime Minister hoped that the authorities will reach out to the grieving families and ensure conditions that such violent acts are not repeated in the future.
The US embassy in India today said that investigation has begun into the attack and it was serious about respecting and protecting people of all faiths. In a statement issued in New Delhi, the US Embassy termed the incident as tragic and said, the Sikh community in the US meaningfully enhances the American social fabric.
Indian Ambassador to US, Nirupama Rao said that Washington assured India that the tragic incident will be fully investigated. She said the US Deputy National Security Advisor John Brennan spoke to her from White House to convey President Barack Obama's sincerest condolences.
Soon after the incident, Mr. Obama reviewed the security situation with his top national security aides. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, has promised a thorough probe into the deadliest attack at a Gurudwara in Wisconsin.
The FBI Milwaukee Special Agent-in-Charge Teresa Carlson said in a statement that while the FBI is investigating whether this matter might be an act of domestic terrorism, no motive has been determined yet into the incident.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has expressed shock over the incident and urged authorities in the US to ensure that the sanctity of religious shrines is maintained.
