Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed distress over the loss of lives and damage caused by earthquakes in Japan. In a tweet, he said his thoughts were with the bereaved families.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, the death toll in two major quakes in Southern Japan have risen to 41. It is expected to rise further as many people are feared buried alive beneath the flattened homes. <br/><br/>On Saturday morning, a magnitude 7.3 quake hit areas in Kumamoto town in the Kyushu Region.<br/><br/>The first major quake had hit the region on Thursday. Nearly 2,000 people have received treatment in hospital for injuries following the quake early today. Rescue efforts are underway at full swing.
