The Cabinet Committee on Prices met at the Prime Minister residence today to take stock of food inflation. Sources said that a series of measures were discussed to deal with the situation. The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh who chaired the meeting is believed to have expressed serious concern over the rising prices. The details of the decisions taken in the meeting will be known after the Food and Agriculture Minister Mr. Sharad pawar will brief the media later in the day. Increasing the availability of sugar and other commodities to contain food inflation are expected to be taken in the meeting. This includes off-loading of more wheat and rice in the open market and extending the period of the white sugar import till December this year.The Agriculture Minister Mr. Pawar has already said that his ministry could move the proposal for allowing raw sugar lying in Kandla Port to be processed outside the UP Mills.
