Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stressed the need for creating world-class infrastructure in the country saying accelerated infrastructure development is his top priority.
He asked the Railways to come up with a comprehensive plan for facilitating FDI in view of clearance for 100 percent FDI in the sector. Mr. Modi today reviewed the progress of eight major infrastructure sectors including Civil Aviation, Ports and Inland Waterways, Railways, Roads, Telecom and power.
The meeting was a part of Prime Minister's regular reviews of infrastructure projects which he takes every month. During the meeting, Mr. Modi said the Sagarmala project should lead to port-led development, and become a major link for his Make in India vision.
Emphasizing the importance of monitoring the progress of infrastructure development, he asked Union Ministries to monitor the projects on electronic reporting formats.
He said initiatives undertaken by state governments as well as PSUs with other countries including SAARC nations should also be taken into account while monitoring the progress.
