PM election in Nepal on Thursday

In Nepal, Unified CPN(Maoist) and CPN(UML) have named their respective party chairmen as the Prime Ministerial candidates, for which fresh election will be held in parliament on Thursday. While the standing committee of the Maoists re-nominated party Supremo Prachanda as its Prime Ministerial candidate, CPN (UML) central committee has named its Chairman Jhalanath Khanal as its candidate for the post of the Prime Minister. Nepali Congress, the second largest party has not officially announced its candidate with only a day left for filing of nominations, slated for Wednesday. AIR Kathmandu Correspondent reports that Nepal's parliament is beginning a fresh process to elect a new Prime Minister from Thursday following an amendment of the parliamentary regulation restricting polling in parliament to a maximum of three rounds of voting after last year's 16 rounds of polling failed to name a new Prime Minister.
