PM Dr. Manmohan Singh on two-day visit to Bangladesh

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said India's partnership with Bangladesh is important for the stability and prosperity of northeastern states and can have a “profound positive impact” on South Asia. In his statement in Delhi on Monday, Dr. Manmohan Singh said that he is being accompanied by the Chief Ministers of all North Eastern States neighbouring Bangladesh which reflects India's desire to have across the board engagement with Dhaka. The Prime Minister has expressed hope that concrete agreements will be signed during his two-day visit to Bangladesh leading to greater cooperation between the two countries. Dr. Singh said, this will help the people of the two sides to reap the harvest of cooperation. He said, that the two countries are witnessing extraordinary period of cooperation and the visit will provide an opportunity to review the progress achieved in the implementation of decision taken during Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to India last year. He said, concrete progress has been achieved in the areas of security, boundary issues, water resources, power connectivity, improvement in border infrastructure, besides improvement of trade facilitation and economic cooperation. Dr. Manmohan Singh said that he will call on the President of Bangladesh and meet leaders of political parties to take the bilateral cooperation forward. He reiterated India's commitment to extend full support to Bangladesh in its development efforts.
