PM Dr. Manmohan Singh on two-day visit to Bangladesh

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is leaving for Dhaka on a two-day state visit to Bangladesh this morning. The Prime Minister is accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister S.M Krishna, Water resources Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal and Chief Ministers of Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram. A number of framework agreements, Memoranda of Understanding and protocols on water sharing, land and rail connectivity, education, culture, trade commerce and infrastructure development are likely to be signed during his visit.In his departure statement, the Prime Minister expressed India’s commitment to extending full support to Dhaka in its development efforts. He said, partnership with Bangladesh can have a profound positive impact on the South Asian region as a whole and particularly to neighbouring north eastern states.AIR correspondent says that an extradition treaty is also likely to be signed during PM’s visit. It will facilitate extradition of Anup Chetia, an ULFA leader, presently in Bangladesh and other insurgents of both the countries.
