The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has directed officials to take effective steps to bring down the prices of onion. Expressing deep concern over the sharp rise in onion prices, Dr Singh said directed officials concerned to monitor the prices on day-to-day basis. Meanwhile, wholesale onion prices in major markets of Nasik have declined by 33 per cent mainly due to ban on shipments but there is no immediate impact on retail prices. Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has said that onion prices will fall in the next two- three weeks as supply situation will improve. Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit has warned of raids against hoarders.
