PM dedicates India's first ICTT to nation

The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh has called for greater use of fuel efficient, environment friendly and safe modes of transport in inland waterways. Speaking after inaugurating the International Container Transhipment Terminal,ICCT, at Vallarpadam in Kochi, the Prime Minister said the new terminal is the mile stone in the development of country's logistic infrastructure. The ICCT is the first transshipment terminal in the country. Dr. Singh said the terminal will help exporters to access the mainline container vessels from Cochin Port. He said the Vallarpadam container terminal symbolizes the keen interest of United Arab Emirates in investing in India and in promoting stronger business and people to people ties between the two countries. The Prime Minister also inaugurated road and rail connectivity and allied infrastructure of the Vallarpadam project. He, later, left for Thiruvananthapuram.
