A meeting convened by the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to discuss the situationn arising out of high food prices is now in progress in New Delhi. The Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Home Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia are among those who are attending the meeting. The meeting comes in the backdrop of Food inflation soaring to over 18 percent with prices of vegetables, milk, egg and meat registering a sharp increase.
