The high level meeting convened by the Prime Minister in New Delhi today discussed the situation arising out of the rise in food prices. The steps to check the rising food prices were discussed during the meeting. Another round of the meeting is likely to take place sometime today or tomorrow as the discussions could not be completed. The meeting comes in the backdrop of Food inflation soaring to over 18 percent with prices of vegetables, milk, egg and meat registering a sharp increase. It was attended by the Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Home Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia.
