PM convenes hi-level meeting to discuss Food Security Bill

A high level meeting was convened by the Prime Minister today to discuss the progress of the proposed bill on Food Security. Speaking to reporters after the meeting the Chairman of the Council Dr. C.Rangarajan said that the issues related to financial implications, requirement of foodgrains and the subsidy burden will have to be looked into. He said that they will submit a report on the issue to the government by the end of this month. Earlier, the National Advisory Council under the chairmanship of Mrs. Sonia Gandhi took stock of the progress in drafting of food security bill at its meeting held last month on the 29th. The NAC had earlier given suggestions on legal food grain entitlement for general and priority groups.
