PM condoles passing away of Kissan leader Mahendra Singh Tikait

The Prime Minister has condoled the passing away of Bharat Kisan Union founder Chaudhary Mahendra Singh Tikait. In his condolence message Dr. Manmohan Singh described Chaudhary Tikait as a fiercely independent man who resisted the pull of politics and a unique leader who will be deeply missed in the years ahead.In his condolence message, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said, the interests of the farming community were close to the heart of the popular kisan leader. Mr. Pawar said, the leader always stood with the farmers on all issues concerning them. He said, the country will be deprived of his valuable advice and views on matters relating to agriculture.Mahendra Singh Tikait died in Muzaffarnagar this morning due to protracted illness. He was 76. Family sources said, Mr. Tikait, who also served as the council head of Baliyan Khap, was suffering from bone cancer since a year. His cremation will be held tomorrow at BKU headquarters in Sisauli.
