The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has condoled the death of noted Hindi litterateur Shrilal Shukla. In his condolence message he expressed sympathies with the bereaved family and described his death a great loss to the world of literature.
Shrilal Shukla died in Lucknow on Friday morning after prolonged illness. He was 86. Author of Raag Darbari and several other books, Shukla was presented country's highest literary honour 'Jnanpith Award' on his hospital bed by Uttar Pradesh Governor B. L. Joshi on 18th of this month. Shukla who wrote on contemporary issues was conferred with Vyas Samman and Padma Bhushan for his outstanding contribution to Hindi literature.
