Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh returned home after participating in summit meetings with the President of European Union, German Chancellor and the Belgian Prime Minister.At the Indo-EU summit, both the sides decided to upscale the strategic partnership and give impetus to the ongoing negotiations for a broad based Trade and Investment Agreement between India and the bloc of 27 countries of Europe which includes France, Germany and UK. Dr. Singh and the EU leadership are convinced that the agreement will bring immense benefits to all.Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel also said that the agreement will take care of whatever impediments are there in the transfer of high technology. Germany will also collaborate with India in the field of nuclear energy.Terrorism which is of prime concern for India was also figured in almost all the Summit meetings. A joint statement on terrorism resolved that EU and India will fight the menace jointly.German Chancellor Angela Merkel told Pakistan in clear terms that terrorism cannot be used for achieving political ends. Cooperation in the field of Civil nuclear energy and close consultations on climate change, vocational training and easier movement of Indian professionals in Euro zone were also taken up. The issue of climate change was also discussed.In his meeting with his Belgian Counterpart Yves Leterme the focus was on investment in infrastructure and energy. Representatives from Industry and trade participated in India-EU Business Summit.
