Prime Minister Narendra Modi today commissioned India’s largest indigenously built warship INS Kolkata at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai.
Terming the INS Kolkata as a Floating Technological Marvel, the Prime Minister said that the warship proves India’s indigenous capabilities and intelligence and sends a message across the world.
The Prime Minister said, to ensure peace, India has to modernize its armed forces, which will act as a deterrent. He, however, said that India does not want war, but the country has to be alert.
The Prime Minister said Commissioning of INS Kolkata will ensure the safety of not only Indian seas but also the people of India.
Defence Minister Arun Jaitley said with its commissioning, the strength of the Indian Navy will increase multifold.
The 6,800 tonne Kolkata class warship has been constructed by the Mazagon Docks Ltd, Mumbai and has been designed by the Navy’s Design Bureau.
