PM charges opposition with continuing vote-bank politics to divide society

The Prime Minister has charged the opposition with continuing vote-bank politics to divide the society. Addressing the BJP's National Council meeting in New Delhi on Saturday Narendra Modi asserted that disturbance of peace and harmony will not be tolerated. He said, those who have suffered a massive defeat in the elections are still not able to desist from engaging in old vote-bank politics and engaging in disturbing the social fabric.

His attack on rivals comes against the backdrop of BJP being accused of fanning communal violence in Uttar Pradesh and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi storming the Well of the Lok Sabha demanding a debate on the issue terming the violence was artificially and deliberately engineered.

The Prime Minister asserted that BJP never accepts such incidents and peace, unity and harmony are the pre-requisites for progress and there will be no compromise on this.

On the grand victory in the Lok Sabha elections, Modi said that people have given their verdict to BJP and now it is party’s turn to fulfill the aspirations of people. He expressed hope that government will be successful in bringing about a change in the country mentioning that in 60 days, things have started moving. Apparently attacking the Congress, Mr. Modi said those who have not done anything for 60 years are asking for NDA government's account of 60 days rule. He said his government is judged by different and tough yardsticks and he accepts the challenge.

Modi on Saturday justified India's stand of not signing Trade Facilitation Agreement at WTO saying government can not compromise with the interests of poor people. He said there were efforts to isolate India on the issue but it preferred feeding poor people to the good publicity world wide. Without naming Congress, he said those who seek vote in the name of food security, had signed such an agreement which was anti poor. He said his government will not make any compromise on the issue of food security. The Prime Minister said that now the outlook of the world towards India has changed as there is a government with absolute majority.

Modi asked partymen to dedicate each year to promote social cause like energy conservation, toilet facility in rural areas and girl child education and strengthen the party organization at booth level. He also emphasized the need for leading the representative democracy into a participatory democracy in the country

Earlier in the day, BJP National Council ratified Amit Shah's appointment as a new party president. Addressing the council, Mr. Shah termed the party's victory in the Lok Sabha elections as defeat of dynasty politics in the country and said that people have rejected appeasement and vote bank politics. He alleged that UPA government had failed on all fronts including internal security, development and in curbing price rise and had become synonym of corruption and scams. Mr. Shah asked the party workers to ensure BJP's victory in the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir.

Terming the law and order situation in U.P as a matter of concern, Shah attributed it to the biased attitude and appeasement policy of the Samajwadi Party government in the state. He also criticized the JD(U) leader and former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his alliance with Lalu Prasad led RJD saying tie up is only for the sake of power. Shah also asked the party workers to strengthen the party organisation in states like Kerala, Assam, Telangana and north east where party has not substantial mass base. He exhorted all the ministers in Narendra Modi government to work for implementation of the party manifesto and asked party workers to act as a bridge between government and the people.

In his address, party leader and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley without naming the Congress, said that the Lok Sabha polls have demonstrated that voters can not trust a party with a weak leadership and not capable of taking decisions. He alleged that previous government indulged in vindictive politics and targeted Amit Shah.

Senior party leader L K Advani appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and expressed hope that government will fulfill the expectations of the people.

Earlier National Council also passed a political resolution reassuring the people that the government will keep up its good performance and its decisions would benefit 125 crore people of the country. It also endorsed the bold initiatives taken by the NDA government in General Budget and Rail Budget and steps taken to control price rise.
