Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has said that Tamil Nadu is the forefront of India’s development and the quest for social justice. Inaugurating the world's first green legislature building, the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly-Secretariat Complex, in Chennai last evening he said no society can move forward without these ideals being put into practice.<br/><br/>The Prime Minister, said the state had marched forward as a model of development in the country and has attained new heights in rural development and agrarian transformation.<br/>Emphasising that all power should be regarded as societal trust and is to be used for public good, the Prime Minister said legislators should be watchdogs of public finances and ensure that there was no wasteful use of public money. He said legislators collectively,needed to deal sternly with corruption and inefficiency in governance processes.<br/><br/>UPA chair person Mrs. Gandhi, who released a souvenir, said the State had been a model of inclusive growth and development. She said through the decades, the state’s political leadership has combined a profound commitment to social justice and empowerment of the weaker sections of society with a continuing emphasis on industrialisation, development and growth.<br/><br/>Presiding over the function the Chief Minister Mr Karunanidhi said the ties between the Congress and the DMK continues to prosperous despite attempts made by different sections to create enmity between the two parties. He wanted the centre to extend financial assistance to the state so that it can implement a scheme for the benefit of differently abled persons.
