PM calls on President Mukherjee

In the violence hit three districts of Assam, situation is gradually returning to normal. No untoward incidents have been reported since last evening.

In the Kokrajhar district, day curfew has been lifted from 6 am. Curfew has also been relaxed for 11 hours from 7 this morning in Chirang district. It has been lifted for 14 hours from 8 am in Dhubri district.

150 people have been arrested for their involvement in the violent acts. About three lakh affected people have been rehabilitated in 250 relief camps .

Our Guwahati correspondent reports that patrolling by para military force and Assam police have been intensified to keep a close watch on anti-social elements.65 companies of para-military forces have been deployed in violence hit districts.
Army is also staging flag marches .

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has said that the violence is handi-work of miscreants to create disturbances. He visited the violence affected areas of Kokrajhar yesterday.

Members of the various civil society organizations visited the violence hit districts and took stock of situation. A team of the state Legislative Assembly also visited Kokrajhar and Chirnag district. The team asked the state government to expedite relief works.

Meanwhile, Assam government has suspended four officers for negligence in duties.

Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh is visiting the violence hit Kokrajhar District of Assam tomorrow to review the steps taken to control the situation.

The Prime Minister is likely to review the measures taken by the government for relief and rehabilitation.
