PM calls for undertaking more medical research for providing better health care facilities to people

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today called for increased emphasis on medical research for providing better health care facilities to the people. Addressing a convocation function of All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, he said, the country is way behind in the field of medical research and more needs to be done in this regard. He stressed on focused research, particularly on case history, saying that it can prove a big contribution to the humankind.

The Prime Minister also called upon the medical students to continue their learning habits in the field, so that they keep themselves abreast with recent researches in medical sciences.

Mr. Modi asked the AIIMS to initiate a practice of inviting 30 to 40 poor children studying in 8th and 9th classes as special guests during convocation function. He said, such practice will leave a great impact on the mind of such students and they can feel that there are more opportunities for them.

The Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Bardhan said that every year 2000 highly professional doctors from AIIMS will serve across the country.

Prime Minister conferred life time achievement awards on six renowned specialists, including heart surgeon Dr P Venugopal.
