Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has directed for timely implementation of ongoing projects in Railways, Roads, Highways and Shipping sectors. Dr. Singh who reviewed the performance of the ongoing projects set strict implementation time lines well before 2013 Union budget. Our correspondent reports, the completion of the projects in transport sector would give a thrust to the country's economic growth by boosting infrastructure facilities. In Shipping sector, Dr. Singh has directed for a cabinet note to be presented within 15 days on two projects for new Major ports in Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal. For the Elevated rail corridor project in Mumbai, instructions have been given to ink the State support Agreement with Maharashtra government within the next 15 days. Bids for the project will be invited before the 2013 Rail Budget.
The bids for the Madhepura and Marhowra Public Private Partnership Loco factories will also be called by the end of this month. Recommendations on setting up a Rail Tariff Authorty have also been called for. It was also observed that the work on the dedicated freight rail corridor is progressing faster than earlier. The road sector projects are also expected to cross 8000 kilometres by March 2013.
