PM calls for removing constraints to achieve $1 trillion in infra

The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh today called for removing all the bottlenecks to achieve one trillion dollar investment target in infrastructure structure in the 12th Plan period. He identified fuel supply arrangements, security and environmental clearances as some of the constraints that deter or slowdown the investments.

Dr. Singh asserted that growing gap between demand and supply of energy is a major challenge to the development. This he said is a major factor in widening the deficit on current account of the balance of payments apart from fiscal deficit. Dr. Singh was addressing the meeting of expanded Council of Ministers in New Delhi today.

He urged the the ministerial team to evolve a common understanding on these issues and work out mechanisms and remedial measures enabling the Government to tackle critical deficiencies on priority. He called upon them to approach every task with courage and conviction as future holds great promise for India.

He expressed hope that the Ministers will put in their best efforts to complete the unfinished task and extend their support to other colleagues in achieving the objectives of growth and development.
