The Prime Minister has called for proper structural and administrative reforms to make India a major scientific power by 2030. Dr. Manmohan Singh also favoured creation of a favourable environment for carrying out innovative work in the country. Releasing a vision document titled- India as a Global Leader in Science- in New Delhi, he said adequate support should be provided to basic science to solve pressing problems of the people. Calling for taking full advantage of India's large young population, Dr. Singh said, by minimising bureaucracy and promoting creativity, India can be one of the very best performers in science at par with advanced countries in about 20 years. He said this will further contribute to economic and industrial development of the country in a major way. The Prime Minister hoped that the ideas in the vision document will inspire the scientific community to build an inclusive, creative and enterprising India and to pursue excellence in science and technology for global good. The document was prepared by the Scientific Advisory Council to the Prime Minister. The document was released after the meeting held today with Chairman, SAC Prof C N R Rao. Minister of State, Science and Technology, Prithviraj Chavan was present on the occasion.
