The Prime Minister has called for reforms in systems of governance to deal with the problem of corruption. In his New Year message, Dr. Manmohan Singh said, such a mechanism will increase transparency and reduce the scope of mis-governance. He said, measures to curb corruption will take time to have a full effect and urged the people to be patient.
Dr. Singh said, he would personally work to provide an honest and most efficient government. He identified key challenges as livelihood security, education, food, health and employment, economic security, energy security, ecological security and national security.
Asking the people to work together as a nation to address these challenges the Prime Minister said, higher levels of production need more energy and it is time to plan for a substantial growth in energy availability.
