The Prime Minister has called for mobilisation of private investment into science sector to raise the country's investment in scientific researchs to two per cent of GDP. Dr Manmohan Singh was speaking at a function in Vigyan Bhawan to mark the 70th Foundation Day of the concil of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in New Delhi today. The Prime Minister lauded the efforts of the CSIR saying it ha proven its professional worth in every phase of India's growth in line with prevailing national policies and national priorities. Earlier, Dr Singh, who is also the President of the Council gave away Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prizes for 2011 and the CSIR young scientists awards.

The Minister for Science and Technology, Mr Vayalar Ravi, said the awards will motivate the scientists. He said their innovations will benefit the society.
