PM calls for channelising energy of youth to addresses national challenges

Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh today called for positively channelising the tremendous energy in the youth to successfully address the complex national challenges.

Addressing the National Cadet Corps (NCC) parade in New Delhi, Dr. Singh said India is a young country and the youth population is its major strength.

Today's Youth he said, are well aware of their rights and have a strong desire to contribute towards a better future. Complementing the vital role played by the NCC to empower the youth, Dr. Singh said, it has always come forward in times of need and rendered yeomen service in the form of disaster relief and social service.

The Prime Minister also praised NCC's role in spreading awareness against female foeticide, cancer care and energy conservation.

Dr. Singh said the government has taken several measures to provide employment opportunities to the young generation. He said the Right to Education Act is a landmark in providing education including skill development and vocational training so that the youth can gain successful careers in manufacturing and industrial sectors of the growing economy.
