PM calls for 4% rise in agri production

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has called upon the Agriculture scientists to assist in increasing agriculture production at a rate fast enough to ensure food security to our growing population. Singh said this while addressing the convocation at the Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology in Pant Nagar in Uttarakhand. <br/><br/>The Prime minister said agricultural output has to be increased from the present around two percent per annum to four percent. Singh said agriculture has to be made beneficial, especially to the small and marginal farmers to foster inclusive growth. He also said agriulture markets need to be reformed. In the last six years, the Central Government has endeavoured to give highest priority to Agriculture, he added.
