The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh began his new year by paying obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib or Golden Temple and Durgiana Mandir in Amritsar, today.

Accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Gursharan Kaur, Dr. Singh listened to the kirtan by sitting inside the sanctum sanctorum for about half an hour and paid respects at Akal Takht also.

The couple was presented with Siropas by the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee. Later, he went to Durgiana Mandir to pay obeisance before flying back to Delhi.

The Prime Minister had reached Amritsar late last evening and stayed there overnight. On his arrival at Sri Guru Ramdass Ji International Airport, Amritsar, he was received by the state Chief Minister, Prakash Singh Badal and PM’s brother Surjit Singh Kohli.
