About the safety of Koodankulam nuclear power plant, the Prime Minister assured that these reactors are the safest available anywhere in the world. He said that the 2,000 Megawatt power plant set up at a cost of 14,000 crore rupees will benefit Tamil Nadu and southern states. It cannot be allowed to sit idle. Dr. Singh said that more and more people were now of the view that the agitation on the issue was overdone.
