The Prime Minister assured the Lok Sabha today that all the 19 nuclear power plants in the country are working safely. Dr. Singh asserted that there can be no compromise on the safety. Intervening during the question hour in the House, Dr. Manmohan Singh said the safety standards in India's nuclear power plants are unmatched. He reminded the Members that all of them have functioned without any incident. He assured the members that the nuclear power plants are fully secure and there can be no doubt about their operational safety.
Replying to the main question, Minister of State in the PMO V. Narayanasamy said in all nuclear plants an exclusion zone is established around the reactors. It is developed as a green belt where people can continue to pursue their livelihood. They can carry out their normal activities even after the nuclear plant is set up and begins its operation, he said.
