Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is arriving New York on Thursday evening to participate in the session of UN General Assembly. He will focus on global challenges such as terrorism, economic slowdown and unrest in West Asia and North Africa. Set to address the General Assembly on Saturday, Manmohan Singh will also amplify the issue of UN reforms as he speaks about the role played by India since being elected as a non-permanent member of the Security Council after a gap of 19 years. Before leaving for UNGA, Dr. Singh in a statement called upon all countries to collectively address the multiple global challenges saying, it is imperative to act in concert for the purpose. Dr Manmohan Singh said economic slowdown, inflationary pressures, terrorism and non-traditional threats to international security, were threatening states and called for collective action to address all these issues. External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna, his Principal Secretary T.K.A. Nair, National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon and Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai are part of the high-level team accompanying him.
