PM arrives in Mumbai

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh arrived in Mumbai today evening. He was received at the airport by Maharashtra Governor, K Sankaranarayanan and Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan. A delegation led by State Congress Chief Manikrao Thakre also met the Prime Minister at the airport. The delegation requested Dr. Singh to hasten the transfer of NTC’s Indu mill land to the state government to construct the proposed memorial of Dr B R Ambedkar. The delegation also discussed the issue of drought with the Prime Minister.

Tomorrow, the Prime Minister will be the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony of the 150 years celebration of the Bombay High Court. The Bombay High Court was established in 1862. A special postal cover was recently released to mark the completion of 150 years of the High Court.

Later tomorrow, the Prime Minister will deliver the golden jubilee convocation address at the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai. On the occasion, the Degree of Doctor of Science will be conferred upon renowned industrialist, Azim Premji. The Prime Minister will also award medals to the meritorious students of IIT and give away Ph.D degrees.
