The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday on the second leg of his three nation tour. He was received at the airport by the cabinet Minister For Human resources Mr Datuk S Subramaniam, and deputy foreign minister Kohilam Pillay. Apart from the talks with his Malaysian counterpart , Mr Naijb Tun Razak , the launch a bi-lateral CEO forum as well as Little India in Brickfields by both Prime Ministers are the other highlights of Dr Singh’s visit. He will also deliver the Khazanah Global Lecture 2010. AIR correspondent covering the Prime Minister’s visit reports that about half a dozen agreements will be signed in the areas of culture,education and science and technology to give a further push to their bi-lateral ties.It was in January this year, when Mr Najib Tun Razak visited India and three agreements including the extradition treaty were signed. This time the conclusion of the talks on the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement will be an important announcement. The two way trade between India and Malaysia went up more than threefold in the last five years and the Free trade agreement in goods which came into effect between India and ASEAN has already given an impetus to the trade turnover. Once the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement comes into force early next year the quantum of trade is expected to rise substantially. Apart from the trade ties, both the countries are poised to give a strategic direction to their relationship.
