PM appeals Anna Hazare to end fast

The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has appealed to Social Activist Anna Hazare to end his fast enabling all stakeholders to work together for a strong Lokpal. Giving his opening remarks at the All Party Meet convened on Wednesday in New Delhi on Lokpal issue, he said, he would also like the Standing Committee to consider all points of view to evolve a broad based national consensus to create a strong institution of the Lokpal. Anna Hazare has entered 9th day on his indefinite fast at Ramlila Maidan to press for Jan Lokpal Bill.Referring to his letter to Anna Hazare , Dr. Singh said, he requested him to end his fast and reiterated Government’s intention to pass the best possible Lokpal legislation with inputs from civil society and on the basis of the broadest possible consensus. Deliberating on the talks between Team Anna and Government mediator Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Dr. Singh said that the common objective is to build a strong and independent institution that will deal effectively with corruption. The Prime Minister said that the recent developments have raised issues, related to the functioning of Parliamentary democracy. Calling it a cause of concern for all, Dr. Singh said, he has called this meeting to discuss the issue collectively to have a way forward.Ahead of the meeting, Law Minister Salman Khurshid said that there is some hope of finding a solution to sticky issues relating to the Lokpal Bill.
